Founded in a Rice University dorm room in 2003, we are Houston’s premier K12 tutoring, test prep, and academic publishing consultancy. We work with more than 1,000 Houston-area students a year.

We are actively hiring for the following positions:

Our Peer & Pro Tutors comprise the majority of our staff and tutor students in everything from 1st grade reading to linear algebra and organic chemistry. They possess raw brilliance but also empathize and communicate well.

One-to-one private tutoring is usually in-office but may also take place at a client’s home. Practice club and course instructors work out of our office.

This part-time position benefits from flexible hours and assignments. If hired, Tutors can decide when and with whom they want to work.

The Assistant Manager for Client Experience and Admissions reports to the General Manager to onboard and support clients; primary responsibilities include:

Selling services to parents
Supporting parents and students
Counseling students directly including in college admissions

Experienced tutor hires start at $39/hr

We pay tutors' W2 payroll taxes

Did you know that most tutoring companies will classify you as an “independent contractor” versus an “employee”? This legal classification has a major financial impact on you; you will owe the IRS upwards of 15% in self-employment tax—in addition to your standard income tax—at the end of the year. Furthermore you won’t be protected by your employer’s business insurance should something go wrong.

At General Academic, all of our in-office and in-home tutors are W2 employees, meaning that you don’t have to pay self-employment tax, and you’re covered by our insurance—and the huge roof over our 9,000 square foot office!
