The Assistant Manager reports to the General Manager and helps to ensure smooth daily operations while also conducting research into and publishing on topics that support the company’s mission; primary responsibilities include:

  1. Communication with clients about needs, expectations, and satisfaction
  2. Coordination of student-tutor schedules and results management
  3. Research, analysis, and writing of online articles about schools and education

General Academic seeks a self-motivated, creative, and personable individual to manage client relationships, tutor responsibilities, and knowledge capital. Potential candidates should be personable, creative, and organized. They must have an interest in education, technology, and publishing.

A college education is required, but no previous work experience is necessary. Technically, candidates must have excellent written, oral, and computer skills.

Curiosity, creativity, and ownership are encouraged with every duty and role.

The Assistant Manager’s primary responsibilities can be defined within four categories:

Tutor Management (50%)

  1. Coordinate tutor and student scheduling
  2. Ensure tutors are aware of and meeting client expectations
  3. Ensure tutors have necessary resources to fulfill student needs

Client Management (20%)

  1. Respond to client needs, answer questions, and recommend solutions
  2. Follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction and adjust recommendations
  3. Proactively identify future client needs and recommend solutions

Research, Analysis, and Publishing (20%)

  1. Research Houston-area schools and write profiles at HoustonSchoolSurvey.com
  2. Analyze education data and publish findings
  3. Stay current on education news and trends and write about relevant findings

Special Projects & Growth Opportunities (10%)

  1. Learn about the challenges of adolescent development and formulate action plans
  2. Learn about and act on the importance of digital media and content marketing
  3. Learn about and facilitate in development and implementation of education technology

The Manager is generally expected to work in-office Sunday through Thursday 10am to 6pm and remotely as-needed. Schedule flexibility is possible particularly with late mornings and academic holiday periods like spring break, summer, and winter break.

The start date of this role is flexible but will be no later than August 1, 2021.

Base salary is dependent on education and experience but will be in the $40,000 range.
